About

WE ARE FAMILY

Surrender Cobra is family.  The professional and eclectic band consists of three brothers and their dad.   As a result of a shared love of good music and inspired/mentored by many talented musicians in the Greenwood music scene, the youngsters formed the band O’Doyle Rulz (https://odoylerulz.com) with friend, Freddie McClendon, in 2017.  During the pandemic period, the family created Surrender Cobra.

Surrender Cobra

Jarratt Smith (guitar, ukulele, drums, lead vocals)

Witt Smith (bass, vocals)

Benjo Smith (drums, vocals)

Brandon Smith (electric banjo, keyboard, vocals).

Surrender Cobra plays venues and festivals all over South Carolina, Georgia, North Carolina, Tennessee, Arkansas and beyond.  Despite their young age, they are veterans of the studio, having recorded at Capricorn Sound Studios in Macon, GA and elsewhere in the last few years. As a result of their increasingly impressive reputation, the gentlemen have been joined in studio and/or on stage by Brandon “Taz” Niederauer (renowned guitar prodigy and acclaimed actor), Robert Lee Coleman (guitarist for James Brown and Percy Sledge) and Bob Margolin (guitarist for Muddy Waters and Pinetop Perkins and featured in the classic music documentary, The Last Waltz).  Plus, Josh Norman, star NFL cornerback from Greenwood, can be heard on vocals on Just A Friend.  Currently, Surrender Cobra is working on their first batch of original tunes and look forward to developing, recording and releasing them in early 2023.

The youngsters are normal kids that enjoy sports, the outdoors and free time.   Brandon (dad) joins them onstage between his role as a lawyer and the Mayor of the City of Greenwood.  People used to come to see the novelty of kids in a rock band.  But, the novelty has developed into serious and professional musicianship known for their legendary live shows that include an often psychedelic blend of rock, soul and country.

Surrender Cobra counts a diverse range of influences, ranging from the Allman Brothers Band family of musicians to Lenny Kravitz, the Beatles, Bob Marley, Tyler Childers and more.  The fam loves to perform live, so please come check them out at a venue nearby or let us know where you would like to see them play!
